What is Schedule Baseline?

The schedule baseline is the approved version of the schedule — the fixed reference that actual progress is measured against. "Behind schedule" literally means "behind the baseline."

It changes only through formal change control. Quietly re-planning dates to hide a slip destroys the baseline's meaning; the honest path is a change request and a visible re-baseline.
