What is Power/Interest Grid?

The power/interest grid classifies stakeholders along two axes — their power over the project and their interest in it — yielding four engagement strategies: manage closely (high/high), keep satisfied (high power, low interest), keep informed (low power, high interest), and monitor (low/low).

Its value is honesty about attention: engagement effort is finite, and the grid puts it where it changes outcomes.

Worked example

The CFO (high power, low interest): keep satisfied with concise monthly summaries. The end-user lead (low power, high interest): keep informed and involved in testing. Same project, deliberately different engagement.
