What is Risk Appetite?

Risk appetite is how much uncertainty an organization is willing to accept in pursuit of its objectives — a strategic disposition, set above the project. A startup chasing market share and a nuclear regulator have very different appetites, and the same project plan would be right for one and reckless for the other.

It matters on the exam because response planning is calibrated to it: aggressive appetite tolerates accepting more risks; conservative appetite demands mitigation and transfer.
