What is a Resource Calendar?
A resource calendar shows when each specific resource — a person, a crane, a test lab — is actually available to the project: working days, shifts, vacations, maintenance windows, and commitments to other projects. The project calendar says when work can happen; the resource calendar says who and what can do it.
Ignore it and your schedule is fiction: an activity planned for a week when its only qualified engineer is on leave isn't scheduled, it's wished.
Worked example
A bridge schedule shows deck girder installation in week 30. The resource calendar shows the 500-ton crawler crane is on another site until week 32, and the certified rigging crew works a 4-day week. The realistic plan moves the lift to week 32 and adds a day — before the client hears a date nobody could keep.
