What is Value Delivery?
Value delivery is the through-line of the modern PMP exam: projects exist to deliver value — to customers, the organization, and stakeholders — not to complete task lists. It reframes every decision: prioritize by value, sequence to deliver value early and often, measure success by value realized rather than milestones passed.
The 2026 exam's reflex to build: when options compete, the one that protects or accelerates value to the customer usually wins over the one that protects the plan. On-time, on-budget, and worthless is a failure the exam now knows how to describe.
Worked example
Halfway through a warehouse system build, the team realizes the receiving module alone would eliminate the client's worst bottleneck today. Classic plan-thinking ships everything in month 12. Value-delivery thinking ships receiving in month 5, banks eight months of real savings for the client, and lets live usage reshape the remaining backlog. Same scope, same budget — radically different value curve.
