What is Free Float?

Free float is the tighter cousin of total float: how long an activity can slip without delaying the early start of the very next activity — not just the project's end date.

The distinction matters when several tasks share a path: an activity can have total float remaining while its free float is zero, meaning any slip immediately squeezes its successor. Exam questions that mention "without affecting the successor" are pointing at free float.
